Being located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it should come as no surprise that taking care of the environment is a top priority for us at Ocean Kave. Our special coastal wedding venue is surrounded by 60 acres of unspoiled countryside and is designed so that our couples can embrace the beauty of the natural landscape on their big day. But there are so many more ways to incorporate sustainability into your wedding.
From your wedding menu and flowers to clothing and transport, there are plenty of opportunities to reduce your wedding’s carbon footprint. Choosing seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients for your menu is an excellent way to make your wedding greener. We work with some wonderful local suppliers in North Devon who share our values and can create a truly memorable menu for your big day, including fully vegan menus. You can even make your wedding cake more sustainable by using Fair Trade ingredients.
Working with local businesses is an excellent way to make your wedding more sustainable. When choosing the flowers for your ceremony, ask your florist to source flowers locally and seasonally. Not only will this help to reduce your wedding’s carbon footprint, but the flowers will also bring your wedding closer to nature.
When it comes to your wedding attire, there are so many talented ethical clothing designers who can create the perfect suit or dress for your big day. Consider where the materials are sourced from, how the clothes are manufactured, and your garment’s overall carbon footprint to make a sustainable choice, without compromising on quality. By choosing an ethical, sustainable designer, you can work with them to create a beautiful wedding dress or suit that is completely unique to you.
One of the things that makes Ocean Kave a dream wedding venue for so many is its remote location on the clifftop, overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean. But that doesn’t mean your guests can’t travel here sustainably! We can help you with train connections to the nearby town of Barnstaple and recommend local independent taxi companies which have electric vehicles, or larger vehicles to transport groups.
In addition to helping you source sustainable suppliers for your big day, we are committed to supporting local charities and initiatives as part of our sustainability efforts. Leftover flowers from your ceremony can be delivered to local nursing homes to brighten up their day, and we also work with the Freedom Centre, a local homelessness charity, to make sure our bedding helps to keep more people warm and comfortable.
Ocean Kave is set in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, so we feel a responsibility to look after this unspoiled landscape. Our accommodation is part of the Green Tourism accreditation scheme and we are proud of our green rating. We love that couples who choose to celebrate their big day with us share these values, so we will work closely with you to make sure your wedding is everything you dreamed it would be, while being mindful of the environment that makes our venue so special.
We’d be honoured to help you plan your dream sustainable wedding! Please contact us if you have any other questions about Ocean Kave and our green values.
