Unlike most coastal wedding venues in Devon or Cornwall, Ocean Kave isn’t a hotel wedding venue on a beach in a busy tourist hotspot; it is a beautifully designed, purpose-built venue set in over 60 acres of private land in a UNESCO biosphere and designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For our couples and their guests, it means exclusive photos, undisturbed by other guests; no holidaymakers in flipflops ambling into your wedding reception; unfettered access to stunning, private coastal areas to help you to get that perfect shot to remember your special day. From pre-wedding photos to the day-after celebrations with family and friends, our photo diary shows the myriad opportunities for you and your guests.

‍The Save The Date Shoot

‍What better way to save the date than a little taster of the fabulous location that you have selected for your wedding? Many photographers offer packages that include pre-wedding or engagement shoots; if you would us to recommend a photographer that knows the area well, just ask your wedding coordinator. Your Save The Date Shoot is an opportunity for you to practice shots that you would like on the big day and explore the venue so that you can create a photo timetable with your photographer. Start at Westward Ho! beach where you can treat yourself to fish and chips or a famous Devon Hocking’s ice cream, before heading to Ocean Kave and exploring the private coastline, to which you will have exclusive access on your big day. If you would like to book a Save The Date Shoot for your Ocean Kave coastal wedding, please arrange a date with your wedding planner; we pride ourselves on our couples’ exclusivity, so your photo shoot will be subject to availability.

‍The Day Before

‍Many couples choose to stay at Westward Living at least one night before the wedding. This adds to the experience and removes some of the stress of the big day. As the sun sets on your last day before you say “I Do”, you can venture to the beach for a family barbecue, supper at the Westward Ho! Pier House Wedding Venue and Restaurant or stroll along the coast path and enjoy the perfect tranquillity of your surroundings. This is a great opportunity for your photographer (or a designated amateur photographer) to capture the anticipation and excitement of the run up to your wedding day.

‍The Morning

‍While formal photography is a great way to capture your day, there has been a steady rise in reportage style photography. Sometimes, these candid moments of laughter, nerves, love, or even tears can be the ones that say most about your wedding day. A pre-shoot with the bridal party (and a glass or two of Fizz) can be arranged with your photographer; strolling along the beach in your curlers, walking the coast path to clear your head ready for the day ahead; shots of the sun rising as the catering team and wedding planners prepare for your special day.  

‍Head to The Ho!

‍At Ocean Kave, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to exquisite coastal photos. Your photographer will talk you through the choices available to you and will have planned a rough timetable to accommodate specific pictures that you would like. Once you have said “I Do”, you can join the throngs on Westward Ho! beach for an ice cream and a few bare-foot photos. The juxtaposition of sunburnt tourists splashing in the sea and the happy couple in their wedding finery creates stunning imagery (especially if you know that you can escape the madding crowd and return to your private wedding venue at your leisure!).

‍Love In The Clifftops

‍Beach photographs are undoubtedly beautiful, but there is something truly magical, and more than a little Bronte-esque, about shots on the clifftop. Aside from the fact that you will get to enjoy a few private moments together gazing out to sea and reflecting on your day so far, your photographer will be able to capture magical moments of love and tenderness.

‍Set Your World On Fire

‍As the sun goes down and sets the sea ablaze, there is no better place to capture the essence of your day than with a sunset photo shoot. The sunset from Ocean Kave’s private clifftop has been photographed countless times, for good reason: we challenge you to find a better sunset, anywhere else in the world!

‍The Morning After

‍What better way to celebrate the first day of your married life than with a dip in the Atlantic Ocean! Head to the water and get fabulous pictures of you and your guests creating a splash. You could even wear your wedding outfits (or get a spare, to avoid ruining the real one!).
