For many reasons, whirlwind, last minute or late availability weddings in are proving to be very popular wedding options for couples in 2023.  Our Ocean Kave magical coastal wedding venue is set within 60 acres of private grounds overlooking some of the most exquisite locations on the North Devon Coast including Lundy Island, Hartland Point and Clovelly.

There are no hard or fast lead times for booking weddings, it is down to the couple and what works best for them, but usually, our couples will plan a wedding about 8-12 months in advance, however we have also hosted seamless weddings with 28 days’ notice.  At Ocean Kave we do get last minute wedding availability , our expertly designed small wedding packages mean that couples can have amazing weddings at short notice.  As our elopement and small intimate wedding packages are inclusive of styling, catering , accommodation and even photography (elopement weddings) it is very simple for couples to arrive and just let our experienced team take care of the wedding planning and coordination on the day.

Years ago, a last minute wedding was sometimes referred to as a shot gun wedding and seen as something couples had to do rather than had chosen to do, but fortunately times have changed and there are so many reasons for choosing to have a last minute wedding. In recent months we have seen an increase in short notice weddings  at Ocean Kave due to couples considering their budgets and being mindful of spiralling guest lists.  A last-minute wedding will often have a shortened guest list or even no guests, this takes the stress and financial burden away from couples so they can focus on each other and saying their vows the way they want to.

If you decide to have a Registrar to conduct your ceremony for the marriage, the first thing you will need to do is to book the Devon Registrars to come out to Ocean Kave Wedding Venue to conduct the ceremony, it is important that they have the correct date and time of the ceremony. Once this is confirmed, you will need to give notice at your local Registry office in person. This can be done 12 months before the wedding date but no less than 28 days before the ceremony for more info take a look at the Devon Registration Service Website.

If you were considering a Registry Office marriage but wanted to have a fabulous blessing at our iconic Devon Wedding Venue, another option to consider is booking a Celebrant to conduct the ceremony.  A celebrant led marriage ceremony is not legally recognised, however it is a very personal and unique experience totally tailored to suit your personalities and beliefs.  As couples are not required to give an official notice to marry for. A celebrant wedding, it is possible to conduct the ceremony at very late notice, subject to the wedding venue and celebrant being available on your chosen date. We love working with Nixie James-Scott from Unique Ceremonies  Nixie has conducted some beautiful wedding and vow renewal ceremonies at Ocean Kave and is most definitely the celebrant we recommend to any couples considering a celebrant.
